Grading

Published by

Everyone is expected to complete the minimum requirements.  Completing the bare minimums guarantees you a “Gentleman’s C,” so to speak. Beyond that, obtaining higher grades depends on the quality of your writing, research, and overall effort.

  1. Meet a minimum of twice a week with Mr. W to go over your individual goals & progress towards the goals.
  2. Submit 12+ well-edited individual blog entries of 2 or more paragraphs (7+ sentences each).
  3. Comment on 15+ different blog entries from any of the other team blogs. Comments should be a minimum of one paragraph (7+ sentences).
  4. Keep track of all contributions to the team via an individual Google Docs spreadsheet (and add to the team spreadsheet).
  5. Share two 5-minute “What I’ve Learned So Far” sessions with the class.
  6. At minimum a concerted effort to communicate with “experts” in an area that you’re interested in researching.
  7. Conduct some original investigations/experiments or focus your research on local issues relating to climate change.
  8. Submit — at the end of the project —  an individual contributions spreadsheet that includes (a) links to all your blog posts, (b) links to all comments made on other blogs, (c) team members’ blog posts you edited, and (d) record of all your attempts (successful or otherwise) to contact outside resources.
  9. Submit — at the end of the project — a typed 1+ page reflection on what you learned through the the completion of this unit.
  10. Use the class laptops and our shared time together appropriately at all times.
  11. Use the Internet appropriately at all times (including any links submitted or posted).
  12. Accurately cite & give accurate credit to all resources (print, online, movie, TV, etc.) that are used in blog entries or elsewhere in your work.
  13. Participate appropriately within your team at all times.

Credit must be given to Mr. Christian Long, whose work in implementing the “Alice Project” helped Mr. W focus his thoughts on how to effectively include a blog in this unit.
